Hawthorn Tree ‘Paul’s Scarlet’
- Gorgeous double, light red blossom in spring, earlier than other hawthorns
- Thorny, rounded tree with lobed green leaves in summer and bright red berries in autumn
- Ideal for attracting wildlife, including pollinators and birds
‘Crataegus laevigata Paul’s Scarlet’, also known as ‘Hawthorn’ or ‘May tree’, is celebrated for its stunning double, light red flowers that bloom in spring—typically a week earlier than other hawthorn varieties. This tree is a sport of ‘Rosea Flore Pleno’ and has been awarded the RHS Garden Merit. ‘Paul’s Scarlet’ features rounded, thorny branches with lobed green leaves in the summer and bright red berries in autumn that attract wildlife, though they are harmful to humans. Perfect for specimen planting or as part of a boundary hedge, this hardy tree thrives in urban, coastal, and exposed gardens.
