- Delicious sweet nutty flavour, especially when roasted
- Stores well for a very long time
- RHS Award of Garden Merit
The smoky blue skin of Pumpkin ‘Crown Prince’ makes a striking contrast with the sweet orange flesh inside. The delicious nutty flavour gets even better on roasting! Fruits are large and round, generally weighing between 2-4kg. This superb pumpkin stores exceptionally well for up to one year.
Sow indoors
Sow seeds in individual 9cm (3.5in) pots filled with seed compost. Push these large seeds on their side into the compost to a depth of 2cm (1/2in). Place in a warm environment 15-18°C (60-65°F).
Plant out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out 90cm (36in) apart.
Sow outdoors
In May, water 2cm (1/2in) deep rows well. Sow three seeds together at 90cm (36in) intervals or one set of three seeds in the centre of a large container. After germination pinch out the two weaker seedlings of the groups of three, leaving the strongest at each station.
Tips
Water regularly and feed with liquid fertiliser as fruits begin to swell.
