Sow indoors
March-April: Sow 2.5cm (1in) deep in clean pots or module trays of firm, pre-watered compost. Place in warmth 18-21°C (65- 70°F). Keep soil moist at all times.
Sow outdoors
May: Sow seeds 2.5cm (1in) deep in required harvest position. Sow in a block 45cm (18in) apart. Water well to establish plants. Keep soil moist at all times.
Plant out
May-: Harden off young plants before planting out in the required harvest position in blocks of 4 plants x 4 plants minimum. Each plant should be 45cm (18in) apart with 45cm (18in) between each row. Protect from frost. Mulch plants and make sure they are stable. If roots begin to show at the surface, cover with more soil.
Tips
Do not grow other varieties of sweet corn nearby, as they will cross pollinate with this variety. If planting out before the risk of frost has passed, cover with horticultural fleece. Makes a good windbreak for other plants. Harvest when the tassels at the end of a cob have turned brown and the kernels are creamy when pierced.
